    Superintendent

    description & responsibilities

    This position is responsible for managing designated field activities and general supervision of all phases of construction at the commercial job site. This position is responsible for the safety of all individuals on the job site at all times and ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with OSHA regulations and safe work practice guidelines. This position is responsible for ensuring project meets all company and project specific quality requirements. This position is responsible for scheduling and maintaining daily work activities in a manner to meet project milestones as required. The Superintendent will assist the Project Manager, ensuring projects meet budget, quality, time and safety objectives and leading project field crews through detailed planning, scheduling, supervising, execution of and coordinating the work scope of work.

    • Supervise and coordinate activities of field employees, subcontractors and material vendors to expedite the project schedule while maintaining safety, cleanliness and quality.
    • Lead the morale and attitude of the crew.
    • Train, coach and discipline subordinate employees as required.
    • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with clients, designers, trade partners and inspectors through respect, clear communication, honesty and leadership.  The Superintendent should own the client and the project.
    • Manage the permit and inspection process and attending or conducting regularly scheduled progress meetings.
    • Maintain daily progress reporting and paperwork such as daily reports including pictures of work progress, payroll and equipment time reporting for crew, field reports, schedule updates and email correspondence to keep the various people involved with the project informed of important issues.
    • Gather information by observing, receiving and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
    • Provide input to Project Manager on jobsite issues or conditions and confer with Operations Manager to ensure production.
    • Analyze and resolve problems and/or project work delays.
    • Ensure that operations conform to local, state and federal safety laws and regulations.
    • Monitor and control material waste.

    Qualifications And Requirements

    • Must possess the ability to read and understand project documents, e.g., drawings, specifications, RFI’s, submittals, subcontracts, and the owner agreement terms and conditions specific to your role.
    • Must possess the ability to understand project scheduling and cost control by proactively anticipating and solving problems that could delay construction.
    • Must demonstrate good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies on project plans.
    • Must possess strong management, communication, supervisory and planning skills.
    • Must demonstrate willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
    • May require controlling machines and processes by using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
    • May require handling and moving objects by using hands and arms in the handling, installing, positioning and moving materials and manipulating things.
    • Must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.
    • Must be trained in all required safety procedures with all associated certifications.  Must be an OSHA competent person
    • Must possess working knowledge of or demonstrate willingness to learn how to use the following software applications:  MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Adobe Reader/BlueBeam, ProCore and Viewpoint Field Work Center.
